I found that if you pre-dye some of it (e.g. dip dye), and have it suspended while still wet, then ice-dye the bottom, the ice dye colors can climb the fabric in beautiful, abstract ways.Mariah McGarveyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15434846434991103991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6467699026094550585.post-33476835830481973172016-08-23T21:57:30.540-07:002016-08-23T21:57:30.540-07:00Mariah, you're certainly correct! Since then I've learned the best layering method: On a rack or in a colander set in a tub (or tulle suspended above the tub): layer fabric, plenty of ice, then sprinkle with dye powder. I'll soon post photos of ice-dyeing from a few weeks ago. No wonder you didn't want to send these into the world, at least not right away! Your vintage Christmas cards with the glitter on them are gorgeous. (I need to find the post where you say what medium you used to achieve that very special look of glitter.) The highlights are applied perfectly.

I can't even imagine how long it took you to do the inticate stitching on the mermaid. your added paints are so skillfully applied, that it's as though they were put there by the original artist's hand. (Is this a Rackham?) So glad I stumbled on these. I really enjoyed seeing your work. Thank you for sharing.
